The Bellevue Hospital School of Nursing, New York City, founded in 1873, was the first school of nursing in the United States to be founded on the principles of nursing established by Florence Nightingale. The School operated at Bellevue Hospital until its closure in 1969. The Johns Hopkins School of Nursing founded in 1889 in consultation with Florence Nightingale was one of the very first nursing schools established in the United States.[3] The University of Minnesota was the first university based nursing program. Yale School of Nursing became the first autonomous school of nursing in the United States in 1923. It had its own dean, faculty, budget, and degree meeting the standards of the University. The curriculum was based on an educational plan rather than on hospital service needs.[4] In 1956, the Columbia University School of Nursing became the first in the United States to grant a master's degree in a clinical nursing specialty.[5] This 2009 publicity photo provided courtesy of Slayer shows, from left, Dave Lombardo, Kerry King, Jeff Hanneman and Tom Araya. He was 49.Slayer spokeswoman Heidi Robinson-Fitzgerald said Hanneman died Thursday morning of liver failure at a Los Angeles hospital with his wife, Kathy, by his side. The guitarist had recently begun writing songs with the band in anticipation of recording a new album later this year. He had been slowly recovering from what was believed to be a spider bite that nearly cost him his arm after he failed to seek immediate treatment."The music industry has lost a true trailblazer, and our deepest sympathies go out to his family, his bandmates and fans around the world who mourn his untimely passing," said Neil Portnow, president and CEO of the Recording Academy, in a statement.Robinson-Fitzgerald said it's believed the spider bite contributed to the failure of Hanneman's liver, but it is unclear whether an autopsy will be scheduled. No funeral arrangements have been made."Jeff Hanneman will always be a metal god," rocker Andrew W.K. posted on Twitter.Hanneman co-

Tazhayakov was not sent to a second officer when he arrived, because, Boogaard said, there was no information to indicate Tazhayakov was a national security threat. Under the new procedures, all border agents were expected to be able to access SEVIS by next week. The government for years has recognized as a problem the inability of border agents at primary inspection stations to directly review student-visa information. The Homeland Security Department was working before the bombings to resolve the problem, but the new memo outlined interim procedures until the situation was corrected.Under the new procedures, border agents will verify a student's visa status before the person arrives in the U.S. using information provided in flight manifests. If that information is unavailable, border agents will check the visa status manually with the agency's national targeting data center. It is unclear what impact the new procedure will have on wait times at airports and borders. An electronic cigarette, also known as an e-cigarette, personal vaporiser or PV, is an electronic inhaler that vaporises a liquid solution into an aerosol mist, simulating the act of tobacco smoking. Electronic cigarettes are no longer marketed as smoking cessation aids or tobacco replacement in most countries. There may be similarities between conventional and some electronic cigarettes in the physical design and the nicotine release, which may approximate the same amount of nicotine as a conventional cigarette. There are many electronic cigarettes which do not resemble conventional cigarettes at all. The amount of nicotine contained can be chosen by the user, with some choosing no nicotine at all. The benefits and risks of electronic cigarette use are uncertain among health organizations and researchers. Limited controlled studies are available due to its recent invention. Laws vary widely concerning the use and sale of electronic cigarettes and accompanying liquid solutions, with pending lejavascript:void(0);gislation and ongoing debate.

And so I think the hatred is more invisible," says Laura Grimes, a licensed clinical social worker in Chicago whose counseling practice caters to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender clients.Grimes says she also frequently hears from lesbians who are harassed for "looking like dykes," meaning that people are less accepting if they look more masculine.Still, Ian O'Brien, a gay man in Washington, D.C., sees more room for women "to transcend what femininity looks like, or at least negotiate that space a little bit more."O'Brien, who's 23, recently wrote an opinion piece tied to the Boy Scout debate and his own experience in the Scouts when he was growing up in the San Diego area."To put it simply: Being a boy is supposed to look one way, and you get punished when it doesn't," O'Brien wrote in the piece, which appeared in The Advocate, a national magazine for the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender communities.Joey Carrillo, a gay student at Elmhurst College in suburban Chicago, remembers trying to be as masculine as possible in high school. Fox News Poll: 40 1093escribe nations debt as 'crisis'Voters say it is more important to continue funding Social Security and Medicare at their current levels than to reduce the federal deficit. Yet more than half also think tax increases should not be considered during the current round of budget negotiations, according to a new Fox News poll.Given those views, it's unsurprising that more voters disapprove (53 percent) than approve (39 percent) of President Obama's proposed budget, which includes both reductions to entitlement program benefits and tax hikes on upper-income Americans. The split is not entirely along party lines. Nearly a third of Democrats give the president's budget plan a thumbs down (62 percent approve, 31 percent disapprove). The sentiment is even stronger on the tax issue.Since taxes rose in January, a 55-percent majority of voters says tax increases should be off the table for the next budget deal. Most Republicans feel that way (68 percent), but so do many Democrats (42 percent). At the same time there is a clear consensus that debt is a concern. Four in 10 voters describe the nation's debt situation as a crisis, and more than 8 in 10 see debt as a major problem (43 percent), if not a crisis (40 percent).CLICK TO VIEW THE FOX NEWS POLL.Even so, by 54-40 percent, voters prefer keeping Social Security and Medicare programs funded at their current levels over reducing the deficit. On the other hand, there's some uncertai

Diabetes mellitus, or simply diabetes, is a group of metabolic diseases in which a person has high blood sugar, either because the pancreas does not produce enough insulin, or because cells do not respond to the insulin that is produced.[2] This high blood sugar produces the classical symptoms of polyuria (frequent urination), polydipsia (increased thirst) and polyphagia (increased hunger). There are three main types of diabetes mellitus (DM). Type 1 DM results from the body's failure to produce insulin, and currently requires the person to inject insulin or wear an insulin pump. This form was previously referred to as "insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus" (IDDM) or "juvenile diabetes". Type 2 DM results from insulin resistance, a condition in which cells fail to use insulin properly, sometimes combined with an absolute insulin deficiency. This form was previously referred to as non insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) or "adult-onset diabetes". The third main form, gestational diabetes occurs when pregnant women without a previous diagnosis of diabetes develop a high blood glucose level. It may precede development of type 2 DM. Other forms of diabetes mellitus include congenital diabetes, which is due to genetic defects of insulin secretion, cystic fibrosis-related diabetes, steroid diabetes induced by high doses of glucocorticoids, and several forms of monogenic diabetes.

Myocardial infarction (MI) or acute myocardial infarction (AMI), is the medical term for an event commonly known as a heart attack. It happens when blood stops flowing properly to part of the heart and the heart muscle is injured due to not getting enough oxygen. Usually this is because one of the coronary arteries that supplies blood to the heart develops a blockage due to an unstable buildup of cholesterol and fat and white blood cells. Typical symptoms of acute myocardial infarction include sudden retrosternal chest pain (typically radiating to the left arm or left side of the neck), shortness of breath, nausea, vomiting, palpitations, sweating, and anxiety (often described as a sense of impending doom).[1] Women may experience fewer typical symptoms than men, most commonly shortness of breath, weakness, a feeling of indigestion, and fatigue.[2] A sizeable proportion of myocardial infarctions (2264%)[3] are "silent", that is without chest pain or other symptoms. A number of diagnostic tests are available to detect heart muscle damage including, an electrocardiogram (ECG), echocardiography, cardiac MRI and various blood tests. The most often used blood markers are the creatine kinase-MB (CK-MB) fraction and the troponin levels. Immediate treatment for suspected acute myocardial infarction includes oxygen, aspirin, and sublingual nitroglycerin.[4]

Alan Simpson of Wyoming, said Watt brings "a bright mind, great work habits and an understanding of how Washington works to the job."Hugh McColl, former Bank of America chairman and CEO, also welcomed Watt's nomination. McColl said he has known Watt for four decades, first meeting him through his brother-in-law, former Rep. John Spratt, D-S.C., who attended Yale Law School at the same time as Watt."What he brings to everything, doesn't matter the subject, is an open mind," McColl said. DeMarco long has opposed allowing the mortgage giants to offer principal reduction. In March, attorneys general from nine states, led by Democrats Eric Schneiderman of New York and Martha Coakley of Massachusetts, sent Obama a letter saying that Fannie and Freddie under DeMarco have been a "direct impediment to our economic recovery."

In 1982, TransUnion was acquired as a subsidiary of Marmon Group, a holding company formed by Jay Pritzker and Robert Pritzker. It was spun off as a separate company under Pritzker control in 2005. The wealthy Pritzker family, most famous for owning the Hyatt hotel chain, began divesting the family's assets in late 2001 following the death of Jay Pritzker. Notable major divestitures include Hyatt Hotels Corp. public in 2009 and selling majority stake in TransUnion in 2010.[1] In April 2010, the Pritzker family, with Penny Pritzker as TransUnion Chair, sold controlling interest of TransUnion to a new majority owner, the Chicago-based private-equity firm Madison Dearborn Partners.[2] Madison Dearborn Partners acquired 51 percent stake in TransUnion, and the Pritzker family maintained 49 percent ownership. It is based in Chicago, Illinois.

rding to the Inspector Generals report, ECOtality was required to kick in a minimum of 20 percent of cost sharing under the $35 million in grants, and under the $100 million award, it was to match the taxpayer subsidy. But the DOE allowed ECOtality to use monthly costs of car owners and other expenses it did not directly incur to leverage the federal funds. That meant the company took on little risk in return for its subsidies, the report said.Although there is no clear legislative history on the meaning behind requiring recipients to provide cost-share, the concept is generally understood to mitigate risk, help leverage federal investments, and ensure that recipients have some skin in the game in these kinds of transactions, the IG report said.ECOtality planned a full rollout of charging stations in five major metro areas to address one of the biggest problems facing the market for electric cars range anxiety, or fear that owners wont be able to easily charge them. The goal, according to the report, was for government to stimulate the installation of so many chargers at commercial and residential locations, that places to re-power cars would be nearly as ubiquitous as gas stations. But weak demand for the electric cars resulted in a diminished need for chargers and the DOE and ECOtality sought to reach the 15,000-charging station goal by spreading the program to five more markets. The company also went heavier on home-chargers for in

A home warranty is a contractual agreement provided to an owner of a house by any of a number of different types of entities such as home builders, risk management groups, or others. The home warranty industry was founded in 1971 by American Home Shield.[1] In the strictest legal sense a warranty of any kind within the United States must adhere to guidelines set at the states' and federal government's levels. But the words are not always used explicitly to mean a legal warranty is being conveyed. In many cases, at least in the United States, a home warranty is not a warranty at all but rather a home service contract[2] that covers the repair and/or replacement costs of home appliances, major systems such as heating and cooling, and possibly other components of a home, structural or otherwise. The home service contract generally covers equipment and appliances, such as dishwashers, plumbing systems, and electrical systems, that fail due to normal wear and tear. Coverage varies significantly across home warranty companies. Home warranty contracts do not cover all home repairs.

A credit score is a numerical expression based on a level analysis of a person's credit files, to represent the creditworthiness of that person. A credit score is primarily based on credit report information typically sourced from credit bureaus. Lenders, such as banks and credit card companies, use credit scores to evaluate the potential risk posed by lending money to consumers and to mitigate losses due to bad debt. Lenders use credit scores to determine who qualifies for a loan, at what interest rate, and what credit limits. Lenders also use credit scores to determine which customers are likely to bring in the most revenue. The use of credit or identity scoring prior to authorizing access or granting credit is an implementation of a trusted system. Credit scoring is not limited to banks. Other organizations, such as mobile phone companies, insurance companies, landlords, and government departments employ the same techniques. Credit scoring also has a lot of overlap with data mining, which uses many similar techniques. These techniques combine thousands of factors but they are more or less similar or the same.

(AP Photo/Toby Talbot)A California company was given more than $100 million in taxpayer funds by the federal government with few strings attached to establish a network of electric car charging stations that is fraught with problems, according to a government audit. All this, despite weak demand by the American public for electric cars. While President Obama has pledged to get 1 million electric cars on U.S. roads by 2015, a new report by the Department of Energys inspector general found that Americans aversion to electric vehicles and loose department supervision led to stalling the charging network which cost taxpayers more than $135 million. The report noted the project was filled with problems from the beginning, and said taxpayer-funded grants to San Francisco-based ECOtality for it were very generous and involved little risk by the company.- Inspector General's reportECOtality, which recently named Brandon Hurlbut, former chief of staff for ex-Energy Secretary Steven Chu, to its board, won a $99.8 million award in 2009 to install nearly 15,000 electric vehicle chargers throughout the country. The company and its subsidiaries also received about $35 million from the departments Vehicle Technologies Program from 2005 to 2011, for two multiyear projects to evaluate and test specific vehicles.Acco
